We strive to be a Roanoke Valley resource for veterinary care and pet health information from answering pet care questions in our blog to giving you the resources you need to make informed decisions about your dogs’ and cats’ nutrition.

Meet The Team

StaffGroup-2

Dr. Michelle Spangler has been practicing veterinary medicine for over 20 years. Her love of animals led her to a career in approving their leaves. She purchased Old Dominion Vet Clinic so she could continue her lifelong commitment to pet health in the Troutville and Roanoke Communities.

As Roanoke locals, Michelle and Sam Spangler are proud to be part of the community. ODVC is a family practice that serves Roanoke, Troutville, and the surrounding areas dogs and cats, and their people.

ODVC is a Fear Free informed practice with fear Fear Free certified vets and staff. The Fear Free movement was designed to alleviate and prevent pet fear at vet’s appointments and in other animal-related fields. We’re proud to work hard to make your pet’s appointment as pleasant as possible.

Why Choose Us?

Choosing the right vet is one of the most critical choices you’ll make in the life of your pet. We want to help you make the right decision by allowing you to get to know us. Here are some of the pillars of our work at Old Dominion Vet Clinic.

Fear Free

Going to the vet can be a scary experience for your dog or cat. There are new sights, and smells, and they are being handled in unfamiliar ways. For cats their whole world may be your home! To top it off, they may not be feeling well to begin with. That’s why we do our best to make the whole experience non-traumatic and as pleasant as possible.

Affordable

We don’t want anyone to risk their best friend’s health because they can’t afford to pay a bill. We keep our services affordable and offer a Wellness Plan that covers your pets basic needs paid off in predictable monthly payments. We also accept Care Credit.

High Quality

You and your pets are counting on us to take care of them. Our staff is highly skilled and friendly from the vets and vet techs to the front desk staff.

Comprehensive

It’s difficult enough for people to shuttle around to a dozen different doctors. When you add in not being able to tell your patients what’s happening, it can be even more difficult. That’s why ODVC offers a full spectrum of pet services to fit all your pets’ health needs from wellness to surgery.

Caring & Compassionate

Vet appointments are stressful for both pets and pet parents. We know how much you love furry friends and we’re there for you in the best and worst moments of their life journeys.

What Other Pet Owners Say

We regularly board our Malinois here, as well as visit for checkups and treatments.

Our dog was recently diagnosed w pancreatitis, we brought him in after a weekend of bed rest at our home. The Old Dominion team took him in on late notice, cared for and treated him, and sent him back home healthy and happy.

We particularly appreciate the care of the the staff members Olivia, gave to him. She is gentle and patient. We’ll continue to do business here and would recommend to friends.

Hands down the best experience we've had after being to four different vets in the area. The entire staff from the front office, the techs, to the veterinarian, all treat our dog, Max, (German Shepherd) like family and we've never had a bad experience here. We have had issues in the past with other vets flat out refusing to examine our muzzled dog because she is dog-reactive and anxious and was labeled as aggressive. The staff at Old Dominion didn't bat an eye at her barking and even took the extra step of taking her by the leash and walking her themselves to another area. They are very knowledgeable and take the time to explain things, listen to our concerns, and educate us as dog owners.

First time I have had a pet in many years so I was nervous about choosing a doctor for our new child! I chose Old Dominion because they are close to home and I am thrilled! The attention and care is awesome! They never hesitate to answer all my questions and they really care about you and your pet. I am looking forward to a long relationship with the folks at Old Dominion.

Absolutely love this veterinary clinic. They have taken excellent care of all 5 (was 6) kitties. Not only did they take phenomenal care of Ella Marie during her almost 3 year battle with kidney failure but now with my 19 yr old kitty Precious. They always take the time to listen to concerns and come up with options. Precious is a geriatric kitty and is dealing with osteoarthritis. The last month she has been painful and not herself especially with not getting on the the couch and having a hard time going into the cat litter. If it wasn't for Dr. Downs suggesting a new pain shot specifically for osteoarthritis I was almost set on helping her cross the rainbow bridge (don't want her to suffer), however 24 hours after the injection and she's back to her spunky self. She even surprised me and jumped onto the couch. I know we don't have much time left with my fluffy girl but I am grateful for the extra time we have and the fact she is pain free is a blessing. She is moving with out howling and even had a bout of the zooming this afternoon. I wouldn't recommend another veterinary clinic.
