Veterinary Imaging
Veterinary Imaging, Diagnostics, and Other Specialty Veterinary Care
To improve our clients’ convenience and peace of mind, Old Dominion Veterinary Clinic is pleased to be able to offer Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging, Laser Treatments, Allergy Testing and other specialized veterinary care. We understand that it can be difficult to get your dog or cat to multiple vets, so we do our best to have everything possible in house.
Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging
Like so many things, to diagnose some of your pets’ conditions we have to look beneath the surface. That’s why we offer multiple diagnostic imaging techniques to look inside your pets so we can learn what’s wrong, and make them feel better.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound allows us to view inside your pet in real time. We often use ultrasound for diagnosing issues within organs (such as swelling), pregnancy, and to see how the heart and other organs are functioning.
Digital Radiology
Digital Radiology, often referred to as Xrays have largely replaced traditional X-rays in both medical and veterinary applications. Digital radiology has many advantages over film-based radiography including faster turnaround time, easier sharing and integration with medical software, better diagnostic capability and lower radiation exposure.
Veterinary Allergy Testing and Dermatology
Dogs and cats can get allergies, just like people! If you find that your pet is experiencing loss of fur, excessive itching, red or irritated skin, digestive issues or nasal, eye, or ear infections, allergies may be the cause.
Just like people, allergies can come from food or the surrounding environment. We run full allergy diagnostics testing for sensitivities to foods, dust, trees, grass and much more. Once we have the results, we’ll explain them to you and help to come up with a treatment plan.
When allergies are food-related, a specialized diet may be all that’s required. For environmental allergies, limiting exposure to allergens and shots to alleviate their reactions are both valid treatment options.
Laser Therapy
Does your pet suffer from chronic pain?
At Old Dominion Veterinary Clinic, we believe that when it comes to caring for your cherished companion, you should have as many choices as possible. which is why we’re pleased to offer laser therapy as part of our comprehensive suite of services. The laser uses painless waves of light to treat areas of the body that are experiencing pain or have suffered trauma. This triggers a natural response without the need for medication or other invasive measures. As a result, your loved one can enjoy decreased pain, enhanced mobility and shorter recovery periods.
What is veterinary laser therapy?
Laser therapy is a painless, non-invasive form of treatment which stimulates the body’s natural healing and pain control response. It can be used as a standalone therapy or as a complement to other treatment methods. Using a small, handheld device, the doctor applies a low level laser to the area on question, stimulating normal cellular function. This results in faster wound healing and enhanced pain relief. Best of all, because laser therapy requires no medication or surgery, there are no harmful side effects.

How many sessions will my pet need?
Because every pet is different, their response to laser therapy is equally unique. Depending on your loved one’s specific condition, its severity and a number of other determining factors, treatment strategies will vary. For some patients, positive results can be seen after just one session. Others may require a more long-term strategy to achieve the desired outcome. We will provide you with an individual treatment recommendation once we’ve had the opportunity to evaluate your companion’s situation.
