Our Fear Free Commitment
Going to the vet, even for a pet wellness visit, can be a scary experience for your dog or cat. There are new sights and smells, and they are being handled in unfamiliar ways. For cats their whole world may be your home! To top it off, they may not be feeling well to begin with. That’s why we do our best to make the whole experience non-traumatic and as pleasant as possible.
ODVC is committed to fear free methods. The Fear Free movement was designed to alleviate and prevent fear for pets at vet’s appointments and in other animal-related fields. We’re proud to be Fear Free and work hard to make your pet’s appointment as pleasant as possible.
What is Fear Free?
Fear Free is a philosophy that more and more veterinary and other pet professionals are adopting into their practices. The idea is to make going to the vet as positive of an experience as possible for your companion animal.
Creating a fear-free vet’s office involves changing behaviors, environment, and practices.
Behavior
The way you approach and interact with dogs and cats matters. Doing so in a way that causes them less stress may take more time, but it makes for happier pets.
Environment
We do all we can to remove stressors. That includes limiting time spent in the waiting room and removing extra simuli like smells.
Practices
We encourage our clients to visit with their pets even when they don’t have an appointment. That will help your animals to have a more positive association with the vet’s office.
