What is Fear Free?
Fear Free is a philosophy that more and more veterinary and other pet professionals are adopting into their practices. The idea is to make going to the vet as positive of an experience as possible for your companion animal.
Our Fear Free Certified Professionals and Staff use behavior, environment, and practices to improve your pet's vet experience.
Let’s discuss how we can develop a customized strategy to help you and your pet overcome those feelings of fear once and for all.
Pet Wellness Services
Vaccinations
As hard as we try, sometimes are dogs and cats get into things they shouldn’t! One way to keep something small from becoming bigger is by getting your pet regular vaccinations. In addition, rabies vaccinations are legally required in some municipalities.
Your pet doesn’t need every vaccination annually, but we’ll keep track of all your dogs,’ and cats’ vacations needs to keep them on a healthy schedule.
Flea and Tick Prevention
Fleas and ticks cause many of the most dangerous diseases for your pets – not to mention uncomfortable! Old Dominion Veterinary Clinic will prescribe you with the necessary prevention to keep these nasty parasites from infesting your best friends. Regular patients can even order online through our pharmacy!
Heartworm Tests and Prevention
Heartworm can be a devastating disease for your pets’ health, and can even lead to an early death. That’s why heartworm prevention and testing is so important. We provide heartworm prevention and recommend heartworm tests at least once a year.
If your pet has heartworm, we will work with you on a treatment plan.
Microchipping
Safety is a vital aspect of pet health. That’s why we also offer microchipping to help you keep your pet safe. Microchipping is a great way to help you keep your pet if the unthinkable happens. If your pet gets away, other vets and animal care workers are trained to scan all dogs and cats for chips which contain information about you, the owner and how to get you home.
Veterinary Allergy Testing and Dermatology
Dogs and cats can get allergies, just like people! If you find that your pet is experiencing loss of fur, excessive itching, red or irritated skin, digestive issues or nasal, eye, or ear infections, allergies may be the cause.
Just like people, allergies can come from food or the surrounding environment. We run full allergy diagnostics testing for sensitivities to foods, dust, trees, grass and much more. Once we have the results, we’ll explain them to you and help to come up with a treatment plan.
When allergies are food related, a specialized diet may be all that’s required. For environmental allergies limiting exposure to allergens and shots to mitigate their reactions are both valid treatment options.
